(More customer reviews)After reading stellar reviews of Danby dehumidifiers in Consumer Reports, I bought a DDR6588EE 65 pint dehumidifier. It worked well in our basement and I had it draining into a sump pit. Unfortunately, I couldn't tell if it was still extracting water as there was no bucket to monitor. Anyway, I recently decided to move the dehumidifier to a more central area of the basement to remove a damp smell. That's when I realized that zero water was draining into the basket. After looking around on line, I found that I was one of many who had a sensor failure, which stops the condenser from switching on. So for some long period of time, my Danby had been running 24/7 with only the fan going and no dehumidifying taking place. I spoke to the company who informed me that I needed a new sensor, which is $45, and out of stock.
I tried calling "customer service" a number of times, since I am 6 months out of warrantee but the part probably failed while under warrantee (and wasn't noticed by me) and it was a known problem. The Customer Service rep of course couldn't do anything but refer me to their parts department. I tried to reach a supervisor on several occasions and left messages. None ever returned my calls. Eventually after a couple of weeks, I got a supervisor on the phone who listened and repeated that it was out of warrantee and there's nothing they can do. I understand that, but given that this seems to be a VERY common problem (based on reading on line reviews), I was pretty disappointed. Their inability to return a phone call didn't add to my customer satisfaction either...
Anyway, net net, I'll probably just get a different brand dehumidifier and junk this one. I won't be buying Danby products any time in the future. Apple Computer customer service, this ain't.
