Our house is a 110 year old home with a fieldstone foundation - unfinished basement (only hobbits could stand up down there) - in an area with a high water table (our yard is a bog), so the foundation sweats water. The basement has always been incredibly damp and musty. I originally had two box store dehumidifiers running at all times and could not make a dent in the humidity. Like most of the people looking at this item, I hemmed and hawed about spending this much on a dehumidifier. You know what? Stop procrastinating. Instead of having box store dehumidifiers that burn out every couple of years (you know that happens!), bite the bullet. This is the solution.
In one weekend, this dehumidifier brought down the humidity in my basement 30%. It does cost more to run than the box store dehumidifier, but it works...really, really works!! I waited until I had the unit a full year before writing this review, as I wanted to make sure that it was reliable. It's a work horse. Set the humidity level and forget about it. We have it draining into a storm drain in the basement, so no worries about emptying tanks or keeping an eye on levels.
This machine is a lifesaver...literally. My son and I were getting sick constantly and even the upstairs was smelling musty until we bought this machine. Yes, it uses more electricity, but it does a MUCH better job. It's serviceable AND it's made in the USA. What more could you ask for?
